The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is dedicated to improving community health and well-being through programs in prevention, education, and treatment. Serving as the county’s primary public health authority, it provides a wide range of services—behavioral health, disease prevention, environmental health, emergency preparedness, and access to care—to residents and families throughout the region. Their team is committed to equity, compassion, and supporting the evolving needs of the community.
Project PLASE (People Lacking Ample Shelter & Employment) is a Baltimore-based nonprofit tackling homelessness by providing transitional and permanent housing, plus comprehensive supportive services, for adults and families in crisis. PLASE serves the most vulnerable—including people with mental illness, addiction, HIV/AIDS, disabilities, and those overcoming incarceration—helping them rebuild their lives with stability, dignity, and hope.
NAMI Howard County, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, provides vital advocacy, education, and support for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Their grassroots mission focuses on improving lives through peer support, public education, community programs, and reducing stigma. NAMI Howard County is dedicated to fostering compassion, empowerment, and inclusion for all touched by mental health challenges.
Since 2024, Serenity Sistas has been an indispensable partner in VA Way’s mission to foster mental wellness and recovery—especially for those who have served. Through our joint efforts, every VA Way event now features a dedicated, stigma-free sober safe space, designed not just as a substance-free zone, but as a community anchor where attendees—including veterans—find understanding, connection, and support. These welcoming environments are staffed by leaders who genuinely recognize the unique challenges and strengths of veterans, honoring their service while offering compassionate, peer-driven care.
Serenity Sistas’ expertise in recovery housing and peer mentorship is a perfect match for VA Way’s focus on veteran mental health, trauma-informed support, and inclusive wellness programming. Together, our teams ensure that veterans feel seen, respected, and encouraged to access the resources and camaraderie they deserve.
Our collaborative Narcan training initiatives have equipped many—including veteran participants and their families—with vital overdose prevention skills, further cementing our shared goals of harm reduction and community resilience.
As we progress from 2024 into 2026, this partnership stands as the embodiment of our motto: Every Jam Helps a Mind. With Serenity Sistas by our side, VA Way remains steadfast in holding space—literally and figuratively—for veterans and all in need of healing, hope, and belonging at every event.
